Sri Mukhaligam Temple ( ముఖలింగం ) , Srikakulam ( A.P )

శ్రీకాకుళం జిల్లా, జలుమూరు మండలానికి చెందిన గ్రామము. ఇది శ్రీకాకుళం నుండి 46 కి.మీ దూరంలో వుంది.  ఈ ఊరు 'పంచపీఠ' స్థలముగా ప్రసిద్ధం. ఇక్కడ చరిత్ర ప్రసిద్ధినందిన ముఖలింగేశ్వరస్వామి, భీమేశ్వరస్వామి, సోమేశ్వరస్వామి ఆలయాలున్నాయి. వీటిలో ముఖ్యమైనది ముఖలింగేశ్వరస్వామి ఆలయం. దాన్నే మధుకేశ్వరాలయం అని కూడా అంటారు.
Jullumuru mandal in srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. It is 46 km away from srikakulam. This place is famously known for "Pancha Peet". Here we will come across historical ancient Mukha lingeshwar, Bhimeshwar, Someshwar siva linga temples. Out of all the stated three, mukhalingeshwar is important, also known to be mudheshwar temple.

ఇక్కడ లింగం రాతితో చెక్కింది కాదు. ఇప్ప చెట్టు మొదలను నరికి వేయగా అదే ముఖలింగంగా ప్రసిద్ధి చెందింది. ఆ చెట్టు మొదలుపై "ముఖం " కనిపిస్తుంది అని చెబుతారు. ఆ చెట్టు మొదలే క్రమంగా రాపడి లింగంగా మారిందని చెబుతారు. ఇప్పచెట్టును సంస్కృతంలో మధుకం అంటారని అందువల్ల ఈ గుడికి మధుకేశ్వరస్వామి ఆలయంగా పేరొచ్చిందని అంటారు. ఈ ఆలయంలో గర్బాలయం కాక ఎనిమిది వైపుల ఎనిమిది లింగాలున్నాయి. 

The siva linga is not stone carved. It is carved by the nature on the log of Indian butter tree (ippa chettu). In Sanskrit Indian butter india is known as Madhukam and so is the reason the temple is named after Madhukeshwar temple. Apart from the actual siva lingam in the temple, you would view more 8 siva lingas in all the all 8 directions.

The town of Mukhalingam is located in the north eastern corner of the state of Andrapradesh, near Orissa 56 km north of Srikakulam, a major railhead on the railroad between Vishakapatnam and Howrah. The ornate temple of Mukhalingeswara ( Madhukeswara), and the Aniyanka Bhimeswara and Someswara temple built in the Orissa Style of architecture adorn this village.

సప్తమాతృకలలో ఒకరైన 'వారాహి' అమ్మవారు ఇక్కడ కొలువై ఉన్న పార్వతీ అవతారం. మిగిలివారు బ్రాహ్మి, మహేశ్వరి, కౌమారి, వైష్ణవి, ఇంద్రాణి. వీరు పార్వతీదేవి అవతారాలు. ఇక్కడి శిల్పాలలో వరాహావతారం, వామనావతారం, సూర్య విగ్రహం వుండటం విశేషం. భీమేశ్వరాలయం శిధిలావస్థలో వుంది. ఇక్కడ కుమారస్వామి, దక్షిణామూర్తి నాలుగు ముఖాలతో బ్రహ్మ, గణపతి విగ్రహాలున్నాయి. సోమేశ్వరాలయానికి గర్భగుడి మాత్రమే ఉంది.

ముఖమండపం లేదు. ఎత్తయిన శిఖరంపై బ్రహ్మాండమైన రాతితో కప్పు వేశారు. ఇది ఒకేరాయి. ఒకసారి పిడుగుపడి, ఆరాయి పగిలి అందులో ఒక ముక్క క్రింది పడింది. ఆ ముక్కనే దాదాపు 50 మంది కలిసి కదల్చలేకపోయారంటే , మొత్తం రాయి ఎంత బరువో వూహించుకోవచ్చు. అంతటి రాయిని అంత ఎత్తుకు ఆ రోజుల్లో ఎలా ఎత్తారో, ఎలా అమర్చారో తలచుకుంటే ఆనాటి శిల్పుల గొప్పతనం, ప్రజ్ఞ అర్థం అవుతాయి. ఇక్కడ ఏడు నాలికల అగ్ని విగ్రహం, వినాయకుడు, కాశీ అన్నపూర్ణ, నటరాజు, కుమారస్వామి, హరిహరదేవుల విగ్రహాలు ఎంత్తో అందంగా వున్నాయి. ఈ ఆలయం శిధిలావస్థలో వుంది.

ఇక్కడ త్రవ్వకాలలో వీణాపాణి అయిన సరస్వతి విగ్రహం, జైనమత ప్రవక్త మహావీరుని విగ్రహం లభించాయి. వీటిని ముఖలింగాలయంలో భద్రపరిచారు. ఇక్కడ అనేక శాసనాలు కూడ దొరికాయి. వాటిని బట్టి ముఖలింగాలయాన్ని క్రీ.శ. 10వ శతాబ్దంలో రెండవ కామార్ణవుడన్న రాజు కట్టించాడని, అతని కుమారుడు అనియంక భీమ వజ్రహస్తుడు భీమేశ్వరాలయాన్ని కట్టించాడని తెలుస్తోంది. వీరిద్దరూ కళింగరాజులు. మహా శివరాత్రికి ఇక్కడ గొప్ప ఉత్సవం జరుగుతుంది.....

The archaeological department found the idol of lord sarashwathi (lord of studies) and also the idol of Jains's guru here in this place. Those idols been places in the mucalingershwar temple. This great temple was build by two great kings of Kalinga during 10 A.D.
